What is rock and roll, the history of rock and roll

Rock and roll
Rock and roll literally stirred the youth of America in the mid-50s of the last century. And then the whole world. And while young men and women sang along to popular singers and lit up on dance floors, their parents opposed “innovations” in the music world. Why did this style become so popular and why did it become a bone of contention between generations? This is not just our page.

History of rock and roll
We owe the term “rock and roll” to Alan freed, an American DJ. He worked for a Cleveland radio station and very often played black music on the air because he noticed how much white youth gravitated to it. The name rock ‘ n ‘roll came from the popular song” We’ll rock, we’ll roll”. This happened in 1952.

Giving a name to the new genre, Alan began to actively promote it. He didn’t get much radio airplay, so he started throwing rock balls. The black and white population gathered at them — the American public was outraged! But why? The answer to this question is given by the history of the United States.

Racial resentment in America escalated after world war II. Black people were not allowed to get on the bus if a white American was standing. In the southern States, boys and girls of different colors even danced on different floors. There was a similar hostility to Negro music. Gospel music, rhythm and Blues had no place on the radio. But this was the opinion of only the older generation, who gravitated to country and orchestral music, devoid of improvisations and bright emotions.

Post-war youth demanded new idols, new music, free and incendiary. Young people of that time did not share racial prejudices, so without a shadow of doubt wandered through black radio stations in search of rhythmic sounds. Alan freed took advantage of this.

Conservative parents did not share their children’s interests. As a result, rock and roll was declared war. Famous people called rock and roll a “black plague” that could destroy America. Jeans were banned in schools, and parents scolded children for their tastes in an attempt to weaken the influence of black culture. But for young Americans who were tired of living in a world of delusions, the skin color of their favorite performers didn’t matter.

Everything was changed by the song “Rock Around the Clock” performed by bill Hale, a white American. It was first heard by the public in April 1954, but met with little enthusiasm. But it was enough to make the song the soundtrack to the youth film “Jungle of slates” to start the age of rock and roll. Now few people know about this film, but “Rock Around the Clock” is guessed from the first chords.

By the time the song was recorded, bill Hale was 30 years old. Age was not the only thing that repelled young people. It didn’t have the energy of black performers that young people craved. They were waiting for a new idol to meet their requirements. It was Elvis Presley. With its appearance, the heyday of rock and roll began, which peaked in 1957.

Early rock and roll artists also include little Richard and fats Domino, who played Boogie woogie on his favorite piano. Each of the musicians contributed something different to the music. Chuck berry stood out for his spectacular moves, which are still used in rock concerts. Little Richard is remembered for its frenzied rhythm and loud screams.

The more popular the new music became, the more outraged the opponents became. Elvis ‘ behavior, combined with his bold image, only inflamed the fire. Throwing off your clothes during a concert was outrageous, according to conservative Americans. Despite this, young people continued to dance to incendiary rhythms.

The second wave of rock ‘ n ‘ roll artists includes such names as Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and buddy Holly, who despite the classic costume and glasses won a black audience. Lin Rey is no less famous among fans of the genre. Thanks to this American, we know guitar music for what it is.
