Singing roads 🎶
In a number of developed countries, there are so-called “music” roads. These are sections of the route with grooves of different depths, located (across the direction of the road) at a certain distance from each other. Traffic creates different frequencies. The alternation of these frequencies “creates” a melody that is accessible to the human ear.
The sound of the melody is directly determined by the speed. The highway is designed in such a way that the musical composition is heard only by the driver whose vehicle is moving at the designated speed. Therefore, an unusual musical track is also an effective way to maintain discipline on the road.
Such roads first appeared in Denmark, in the late 90’s of the last century. It was the creations of the designers of Steen Krarup Jensen and Jacob Fredk-Magnus.
At the moment, this type of road can be found in 4 countries (Denmark, USA, South Korea, Japan). the leader in the number is Japan. One of the most famous roads is the highway in Hokkaido, built in 2007. when visiting Fujiyama, a person can hear the anthem of this metropolis.
